Update June 7, 2021

Due to the latest announcement made by FCA, the cryptoasset firms’ assessment is extended from 9 July 2021 to 31 March 2022.

During this time period, all cryptoasset businesses which duly applied for the registration before December 16, 2020, continue to provide their services under the Temporary Registration Regime.

CEX.IO’s is working hard to achieve full registration and whilst this process is in place is authorised to continue to service our customers in the UK as normal.

At CEX.IO, we strive to provide our services under the regulatory umbrella and we spare no effort to obtain licenses and registrations in all strategic jurisdictions.

In 2020 we submitted an application for registration with the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).

On December 16, 2020, the FCA announced that it has introduced a temporary registration regime for existing cryptoasset companies that applied for registration before December 16, 2020, and whose applications are still pending. This is meant to ensure that existing businesses can continue to operate in the UK after 09.01.2021 and until 09.07.2021, while the FCA reaches a decision regarding their individual applications.

CEX.IO has been granted temporary registration as a cryptoasset business by the FCA until July 9, 2021, pending the determination of our application by the UK Financial Conduct Authority.

We are working very hard to achieve a full registration status with the FCA well ahead of the deadline of 09.07.2021.

While awaiting the finalization of our application with the FCA, we are authorised to continue to provide cryptoasset-related services to our customers.

We will inform you of further updates on this matter.
